Examining the enemies on the Path to Knowledge – Part 3: Power

When a warrior overcomes Clarity, he awakens, recovers, and begins to make functional,

something that was previously dormant, forgotten, and obscured by it and by Fear:

his second attention, his nagual perception.

“There is an incalculable power within our reach,” said the nagual Juan Matus,

and it is from this moment that power truly begins to become something palpable.

This realization can grow gradually.

Until eventually, beyond any doubt, the warrior realizes that all possibilities, even those that seemed impossible to his rationality, are effectively within his reach.

He will perceive, as was said, that this is not a make-believe power.

What the Toltecs call the second circle of power, or second attention, is the management of the energetic body.

An amplified capacity to manage one’s own connection with the unlimited force that is called Intent.

The traveler then becomes a sorcerer or sorceress: someone capable of feats that defy the logic of reason.

As the nagual Juan Matus would say, the person starts by calculating risks, and ends by establishing rules.

He will perceive himself as being able to affect circumstances through the second attention, and with that, he can enter a new type of illusion.

It is possible that, at this time, the person loses his sobriety and lets the tonal take the reins of this power.

By acting this way, he will surrender to his whims, and the power will become a burden.

Blind, no longer by clarity, but by the illusion that his tonal truly knows how to control the power he has obtained.

And perhaps blind, too, by the very idea of affecting the world around him.

By immersing in the illusion of power, the person stops learning, and does not truly come to Know.

Challenging power requires, as the new seers warn, perceiving that power is not truly ours, as tonals.

It is, first and foremost, the tonal that belongs to the power.

The nagual is who guides, and is the aspect of our totality truly able to orient our choices.

Every enemy on the path of knowledge is a threat that is supported by personal importance.

The challenge of power is for the man or woman to realize that his tonal is not capable of knowing with precision which scenario is the best for himself, and for others.

The tonal does not know how and when would be the best way for things to happen.

And therefore, he is not equipped to control the power.

By realizing that, and letting go of the burden of control, the tonal will be able to hear the guidance of the nagual.

To discern the voice of the nagual in his heart, not in his mind.

To discern its indications through signs and synchronicities.

And to know, in this way, where and how to apply his intent and act, now functioning in harmony with the nagual.

At this point, power will be under control: no longer of the tonal, but of the total being.
